Patriotic Escapes in Art Class - DecoArt Media Acrylic

Happy Independence Day America!!

Celebrating patriotic fun creating in an art class at the ranch.  Here are some photos to give you a glimpse into my life... as some of you have been curious!

Although I made an creative example for the class (click here for step by step in the previous blog post) this class wanted to create their own art.
I was thrilled!

Hubby made the wood pallets and easels!
We are set up to go!

A short demo and we begin painting with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic, Gesso, Glamour Dust and Metallic Lustre paints.  We did not get a good photo of the DecoArt paint table at all!!

But here are some of the products used!

You can see my "example" up front for all to view but it was great fun to see each one come up with their own creation!

Here are the examples done for the class.
One was made prior to the class and one was finished as a demo as things went along.

They not only used DecoArt Americana Decoupage Papers but stencils and wooden letters too.

Before I knew it... everyone was doing an amazing job of creating their own original designs!

Ranch Staff and Hubby also having a fun time laughing at our antics as we paint!!

Have a great holiday if you live in the USA!
There will be around 45 folks at the ranch and some fireworks in the sky too!
Hugs to all! j.

Fourth of July Abstract Flag on Wood

Time for a bit of 'group' creativity!

These projects were done in prep for a class here at the ranch in celebration of patriotic holidays.

One was a pro-type and one was done during the teaching of the class. Hubby cut the wood panels!

On the wood panel - sketch out you plan!

Add a layer of paint. In this case, I added DecoArt Media Prussian Blue Hue all over the wood board.  I wanted the blue color to show through a bit underneath the other colors.  I also love that the wood grain shows through the colors.

Using DecoArt Media Crackle Paste and an old star stencil - the stars were randomly added.

I added the paper stars early because I enjoy painting around them to make them blend better but you could also add them after you finish painting the stripes.

As you can see I cut out the stars from DecoArt Americana Decoupage Papers: Olde Worlde and Victorian Romance. There were several different choices of patterns. Using DecoArt Media Matte Medium, they were placed on the wood background.

Painting the red and white stripes was the next step in the process. This was done with DecoArt Media Transparent White and Pyrrole Red.

Spicing up the stars with DecoArt Metallic Lustre was fun!  Just use a liner brush and add the "bling" around each star.

To add dimension, paint around the stars with Prussian Blue Hue and Metallic Silver.

Accent the red, white and blue with DecoArt Glamour Dust. The sparkle looks like the flag is waving!

Can you see the glitter sparkle?!!

I believe in YOU... go be creative!!!
Hugs. j.

My daughter likes the one on the right. I like the one on the left.  And in the class, everyone had permission to do what made them feel happy.  You won't believe the outcome.  Check back soon for the photos from the patriotic fun we had in our class!!!

GENTLE Baylor BEAR on 4ft Canvas, DecoArt Media

Howdy from Baylor Bear territory in Texas!!!

Baylor graduates run in our family so you know that bear paintings are a must.  This time I was in the mood to paint a gentle bear instead of ferocious one!!

This acrylic painting is on a 4ft by 4ft square canvas.

Using an Elegant Writer Pen, the face was the starting point. It's so much fun to play with these pens!

Just draw and dab with a cloth - the pen makes the color. For me, it's an easy way to just play until satisfied with the design of a face. Yes, I purposely did the nose crooked so my bear didn't look like all the other bears on the block!

Time to sketch in the ears.

Instead of my usual Baylor Green/Gold colors, my favorite DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Prussian Blue Hue made the background.

The body of the bear would be in the shadows, so out came the DecoArt Media Carbon Black Mister.  I sprayed it on and used a brush to create texture.

Ahhh ohhhh - out comes the greens!!!

Heheheh - go ahead - giggle at that face!!!!
It's hard for me to believe it too - this crazy looking face is underneath the finished one!! Layers upon layers is the secret to success here.

My goal was to get the green and gold colors shining out from underneath. They are actually...
DecoArt Media Yellow Green Light, Phthalo Green Yellow Titanium White and Diarylide Yellow.

After the layers of base coats, the fast and free fun began. Using my long skinny Dynasty Brushes, in various sizes, I began helter-skelter streaks of color in every direction. Of course, in the end, the streaks have some semblance of order, but looking close - you can see the "fling"!!

Here are some close-ups!
From a distance it has an overall blue tone but close up you can see all the hundreds (perhaps thousands) of strokes of color.

DecoArt Media Tinting Base and DecoArt Traditions Glazing Medium saved the day - making dozens of new hues for each DecoArt color used.

These photos show you some of the shimmer from the DecoArt Media Metallic Gold.

Thanks bunches for your sweet support and love!!
Xj.
